Los caminos a Roma / Fernando Vallejo. (OCLC #876723365)

I am often suspicious when a Spanish-language book comes to me needing a new record for this “edition”. Though its metadata may say it is the 35th “edición”, that usually refers to the printing, which does not require a new record on its own.

There were several records in OCLC for this work, but they weren’t quite similar enough. The verso gives a date for “Primera edición en esta Biblioteca”, referring to the new series it is being published under, which is a major enough difference for a new record. Pagination is also significantly different.

Silurian rocks of East-Central Kentucky, including adjacent underlying and overlying units / Tom Lierman. (OCLC #871037733)

The geological society that runs this yearly field trip has had several names over the years (Kentucky Society of Professional Geologists, Geological Society of Kentucky, Kentucky Geological Society), so the field trip guidebook series has also had different names: Field conference guidebook (name of the society at the time of publication).

Our local authority records for these series indicate that they should be classed together (646 ǂa c), and that they share a common call number (with the year added). We have a complete enough collection of these guidebooks that our patrons now expect to find them together. A different library might choose to class each volume separately; for example, with other books about the geological period they describe.

Пермяки : антология пермской фельетонисты конца XIX – начала XX вв. (OCLC #36784009)

If the cover of this book of humorous Russian poetry were a Dixit card, what sentence would you use to describe it? The back cover features a small dog peeing on a lamppost, if that helps.

This one showed up on the problem shelf because of series problems: it is volume 1 of a set (which may never have had other volumes) and that set is volume 2 of a series.
