Massenet & his letters = Massenet en toutes lettres : a new biography / by Anne Massenet ; translation by Mary Dibbern. (OCLC #870699448)

This volume’s title page includes a parallel title for only the title proper (“Massenet & his letters”), but not the other title information (“a new biography”). This situation is described in ISBD:

1.3.4.7.2 When a prescribed source of information bears one or more parallel titles, but the statement of other title information is in only one language and script, the other title information, if given, is given
after the last parallel title transcribed.

Title proper = Parallel title : other title information

For this title, that’s:

Massenet & his letters = Massenet en toutes lettres :
        a new biography

Кижи = Kizhi = Kishi / avtory knigi: Крохин В.А., Пулькин В.И., Смирнов В.И., Ямщиков С.В. (OCLC #913890757)

RDA 2.3.3.3 on Recording Parallel Titles Proper says “if there is more than one parallel title proper, record the titles in the order indicated by the sequence, layout, or typography of the titles on the source or sources of information.” In ISBD, this is done with equals signs preceding each title proper:

245 00 ǂa Кижи = ǂb Kizhi = Kishi

245ǂa contains only the first title proper; the other two go into 245ǂb, Remainder of title.

Naval Digest indices (1970-1979) / Allan S. Rehm [and others]. (OCLC #18772227)

I couldn’t find where we had any volumes of the title “Naval Digest”, so dug through the V schedule looking for a general Naval Science research number (leaning toward V394).

I ran this past my supervisor, who works more with serials; she read several more pages into the index, and found that the serial title is actually Морской сборник, and we have a decent run of it!

I brought in a separate bib record for the index (it has a separate publisher than the serial title), but classed it nearby:

V5 .M8 Index 1970/1979

(OCLC #758283201)

Though many people do DVD copy cataloging based only on the container, I have better luck finding good records, especially for foreign language materials, viewing the title frames of the DVD. Some days this means I get to watch the first few minutes of every Korean film in the box, which is a bonus.

This particular item says “Pan negro” on the container, but “Pa negre” in the title frames. Both forms of the title are in the high-quality record I found, but only “Pa negre” appears in its Title column in OCLC search results. One could have found the best/popular record by searching “pan negro”, but would have to be careful to not ignore the other form in search results (keeping in mind that translations may look significantly different).

US Army, Navy, Air Force, 1970-1972 / ǂc составитель И. В. Модестов. (OCLC #900740312)

Ugh, sorry. I made a monograph record for this volume before realizing that it was part of the serial “Foreign military news”, of which we already have a partial run. It looks very similar to those other pieces, except that they all say “Foreign military news” across the top; this one does not say it anywhere. The title page does have its parallel title “Зарубежная  военная хроника” and “(на английском языке)” (in English), and the dates seem right. The record I derived from also had “foreign military news” in an 830.

Unfortunately the title is slightly too old (1973) to have an ISSN, which was not published as an ISO standard until 1975. I am pretty confident about adding the volume to our serial record though. Sorry about adding the weirdo “no holdings” record to OCLC.

艾氏建筑事务所 : 学习・工作・生活 = Ehrlich Architects : learning, working, living / 艾氏建筑事务所编著. (OCLC #876806744)

This book has both a parallel title proper and other title information, but they share a (Chinese-only) statement of responsibility. This is encoded in ISBD as:

Title proper : other title information = parallel title :
parallel other title information / statement of responsibility.

MARC 245 ǂb is for “remainder of title”, which includes parallel titles and other title information:

ǂa Title proper : ǂb other title information = parallel title :
parallel other title information / ǂc statement of responsibility.

О войне / Клаузевиц ; перевод с немецкого А.К. Рачинского. (OCLC #879375849)

This Russian translation of Vom Kriege was published 100 years after the original, and includes a German title page in the front matter. As that title page has the original publisher and year, I chose not to treat it as parallel title page, and just included its information in a note about the original publication.

I am intrigued by how many forms of the author’s name appear in this record. In the statement of responsibility, he is just “Клаузевиц”, and the original title page has has full name “Karl von Klausewitz”. The authorized form is “Clausewitz, Carl von, 1780-1831” and this appears to be the most common form (though all of these forms appear in his authority record). I wonder which way he spelled it? (or which way his wife spelled it, as she published it after his death?)
