“Russian despotism” : the origins and dissemination of an early modern commonplace / by Marshall Tillbrook Poe. (OCLC #31820585)

The OCLC record we found for this dissertation (and its reproductions) indicate an extent of 451 leaves:

300 vi, 451 leaves ; ǂc 28 cm

which is consistent with our table of contents, but our volume only goes up to 367 pages. We are missing the conclusion chapter! There are very few holdings on the OCLC records, so I’ll check with the selector to find out whether we want to keep the incomplete volume.

Issues in bilingualism and biculturalism : a Hong Kong case study / David C.S. Li. (OCLC #33820211)

This volume (and about 20 others) were due back to the library in 1999, but were just returned this week! They had long since been removed from the catalog (following our lost/missing books policy) so we are treating them as gifts to the library.

The branch where this volume was housed has recently done some aggressive weeding and other collection development, so we will make these volumes available to the selector, so she can choose whether we want to retain it.

National Palace Museum of Korea : Gyeongbokgung, National Museum / Lambert M. Surhone, Mariam T. Tennoe, Susan F. Henssonow (Ed.). (OCLC #862364048)

A while back, this and one other compilation of Wikipedia articles came through our gifts process. As this is material that is freely available online, I asked the selector to confirm that she’d like them added to the collection; today I heard back that she did want them added, so they are now cataloged. I was able to find good copy for both with at least a few holdings, so some other libraries are adding these to their print collections as well.

Barack Obama / Coleen Degnan-Veness. (OCLC #756278154)

We don’t normally buy (or even accept as gifts) multiple copies of titles, but because of the way these readers will be used (permanent reserves for ESL classes), we bought 2-5 copies of each title.

In Voyager, I usually only use “Make a Copy” (under the Record menu) for testing features like record overlay. I use it so rarely that in my daily workflow I forget it exists!

For this project, I remembered it, and used it frequently. Though all copies of a title share a call number, each needs its own holdings (MFHD) record with an individual item/barcode attached. For each title in this collection, I made one good MFHD with the call number I wanted, then made several copies of that MFHD on the bib. Populating a mfhd from scratch does not take many clicks, but with over 100 of these volumes to work through, I took shortcuts where I could find them!

Air conservation; … report. (OCLC #21667681)

This volume was found in one branch, stamped for another, and sent to me because its barcode was not in the catalog. We have two additional copies of the title in storage, so the selector chose not to keep this duplicate.

Til verket med Hallingdal Kraftlag [sound recording]. (OCLC #40099250)

This looks amazing. (I found them on YouTube!)  Unfortunately, we no longer collect audiocassettes.

Trial in a goldfish bowl [videorecording] / produced by ATS/CLE State Bar of Wisconsin in cooperation with Media-Law Renations [i.e. Relations] Committee of the State Bar of Wisconsin. (OCLC #43042952)

When we bought this title in 1985, it consisted of 5 U-matic videocassettes and a manual. The video is a mock trial (based on an actual case) in which a boy was injured in a farm machinery accident. It was designed as a teaching aid for journalism students learning to report on trials. We no longer have the cassettes (or a way to play them in the library), and though the manual (likely) contains the full script of the tapes, it is not as useful for its intended purpose.

Commonwealth of Kentucky : report no. 7 (in two volumes) : University of Kentucky / Division of Education Studies, Griffenhagen and Associates. (OCLC #38058844)

This title was on the problem shelf as an envelope containing the contents of two disbound volumes (now just a stack of paper). We already have an intact copy in special collections, and a microfilm copy for which we created the OCLC master record – my suspicion is that the copy I have in hand is the one that was filmed! The selector did not want to add it back to the collection as an additional print copy, as it is now in such poor condition.

Genomic XML viewer.

Based on the demo that ran when I (against my better judgment) put this mysterious CD into my workstation, the LabBook Genomic XML Viewer looked like some pretty sweet software in 2001-2002. Unfortunately, the download button does nothing, and LabBook.com (which “powered” the software) is now a parked GoDaddy page (registrant in Hyderabad).

National Folk Museum of Korea : South Korrea, Jongno-gu / Lambert M. Surhone, Mariam T. Tennoe, Susan F. Henssonow (Ed.). (OCLC #833181266)

This book is a collection of about 70 Wikipedia articles, starting with National Folk Museum of Korea and including some articles it links to (and some that are maybe further down the tree). I don’t know where the cover photo came from.

As the articles have since been edited/improved and are still freely available online, I have asked the selector to confirm that she’d like this added to our print collection.

I admit that I looked for my name in the lists of Article Sources and Contributors, hoping I’d touched one of the articles in my wiki gnome activities, but no luck.
