Up all night with Robert Downey Sr. [videorecording] / directed by Robert Downey Sr. ; screenplay by Robert Downey Sr. (OCLC #793654441)

When you are cataloging a collection of works on one record, the individual titles of those works should be recorded as analytical entries:

740 02 ǂa Babo 73.
740 02 ǂa Chafed elbows.
740 02 ǂa No more excuses.
740 02 ǂa Putney Swope.
740 02 ǂa Two tons of turquoise to Taos tonight.

No relationship designator is needed; it is already encoded in the MARC: in 740, second indicator ‘2’ designates the field as an analytical entry. The first indicator is the number of non-filing characters in the title; however, current practice is to always use first indicator ‘0’, and just enter the title without articles or other non-filing characters.

Lollapalooza / Sister Ray Enterprises. (OCLC #909786219)

On first glance, I thought this video might be black and white, which would have been coded:

007 __ ǂa v ǂb d ǂd b ǂe v ǂf a ǂg i ǂh z
300 __ ǂa 1 videodisc (63 min.) : ǂb sound, black and white

I watched some of the video and, like the cover, it is in (filtered/washed out) color, so I coded it:

007 __ ǂa v ǂb d ǂd c ǂe v ǂf a ǂg i ǂh z
300 __ ǂa 1 videodisc (63 min.) : ǂb sound, color

using vocabulary described in RDA 7.17.1.3. I didn’t think Details of Colour Content (RDA 7.17.1.4) were important for identification or selection, so didn’t include any more detail.

Analysis and design of singular Markovian jump systems / Guoliang Wang, Qingling Zhang, Xinggang Yan. (OCLC #881439388)

There are still quite a few undifferentiated name records in the authority file; they are identifiable in the fixed field:

Name: b

They have a main heading (not further specified with birth date, fuller form, etc.):

100 1_ ǂa Wang, Guoliang

and brief information about several people with that name who do not yet have their own records:

670 ǂa [Author of Tan hsiang chʻuan chi tien tung chi]
670 ǂa His Tan hsiang chʻuan chi tien tung chi, 1980:
      ǂb t.p. (Wang Kuo-liang)
670 ǂa [Editor of Han Ying ching chi tzʻu tien]
670 ǂa Han Ying ching chi tzʻu tien, 1990: ǂb t.p. (Wang Kuo-liang)

Such headings are not usable under RDA, and can no longer be controlled in OCLC.

The Canadians on the Somme, September to November, 1916 : a social history and battlefield tour / by N.M. Christie ; edited by S. Hickman. (OCLC #35972670)

The title of this series is presented two different ways on the piece:

  • For King & Empire
  • For King and Empire

In MARC, we record the series statement:

490 1_ ǂa For King & Empire ; ǂv v. 2

which corresponds to the RDA element Series statement, but there is no element or MARC field to record a variant series statement to provide access for the “For King and Empire” form.

In a different environment, we could represent the series as a separate work with its own title proper and variant titles, and link the two with “in series”/“series container of” relationships.

Design adds values to the commons : five landscape architects discuss the importance of good design for downtown development / University of Kentucky College of Design ; moderated by Michael Speaks ; featuring Aaron Betsky, Bradford McKee. (OCLC #907676180)

The OLAC best practices guide for cataloging DVD/Blu-Ray discs in RDA specifically doesn’t cover DVD-ROMs of video files like this one, so we just followed RDA.

The resource is made up of two DVD-ROMs containing both .MOV and .MP4 files, so we recorded the physical description as:

300 2 computer discs (8 video files) : ǂb color, sound ; ǂc 4 3/4 in.
336 two-dimensional moving image ǂb tdi ǂ2 rdacontent
337 computer ǂb c ǂ2 rdamedia
338 computer disc ǂb cd ǂ2 rdacarrier
347 video file ǂb MPEG-4 ǂ2 rda

The occult sourcebook / Nevill Drury and Gregory Tillett ; illustrated by Elizabeth Trafford Smith. (OCLC #4473790)

RDA 2.8.2 on Place of Publication says that if more that one place is listed on the source of information, only the first one is core, but other guidelines suggest more:

The LC-PCC PS says: for rare books, record all places of publication. For CIP cataloging, if the first place is not in the U.S., also record the first U.S. location (similar to AACR2).

The NLA PS says: for some publications (such as those from multinational publishers), record all places if the first one is not in Australia.

The D-A-CH says: if more than one place is listed on the resource, record all of them if possible.

The MLA BP says: if you are unsure which is the “true” place of publication, record them all.

This (hybrid) record was created pre-RDA, so includes more than one place:

260 __ ǂa London ; ǂa Boston : ǂb Routledge &
    K. Paul, ǂc 1978.
